Summer Bouquet obviously began when I spotted this Debbie
Mumm fabric. I was looking for something easy
for a summer workshop. When I saw the fabric I knew I wanted to border
the flower squares so that the flowers could "dance" across a quilt.
Hence,
the
tilted
blocks.
So
that
students
would not have to deal with bias edges I worked out a method of cutting
fabric strips then angling the cut so that the straight grain would always
be on the outside of the square. I also learned that they had to be instantly
marked with pieces of tape, or the students would be lost amid a sea of
wedges! The method worked, though, and the quilts came out well. This
is one of my favorites for another reason - my husband picked all
the fabrics just after having eye implant surgery and delighting over the
ability to see colors again! |
