Midnight in The Garden is one of those pleasant surprises
which result when you enter your sewing world, throw away the rules and
play. It was also almost rejected from a quilt show because it was mistaken
as a "cheater" quilt, but then went on to claim a first prize!
It also came about because I kept drooling over a friend's massive collection
of
upholstery and drapery fabrics! I had been wanting to experiment with
the idea of Broderie Perse using the fusible webs now available. The
combination worked well. I decided to let the applique stitches and the
quilting be
one and the same. I used a metallic gold for all the applique work and
did additional quilting with a pale metallic green all over the background.
Bugle beads add a glint of dew to the flowers and leaves.
