Midnight In The Garden

Midnight in The Garden is one of those pleasant surprises which result when you enter your sewing world, throw away the rules and play. It was also almost rejected from a quilt show because it was mistaken as a "cheater" quilt, but then went on to claim a first prize! It also came about because I kept drooling over a friend's massive collection of upholstery and drapery fabrics! I had been wanting to experiment with the idea of Broderie Perse using the fusible webs now available. The combination worked well. I decided to let the applique stitches and the quilting be one and the same. I used a metallic gold for all the applique work and did additional quilting with a pale metallic green all over the background. Bugle beads add a glint of dew to the flowers and leaves.
